Look Up

Bureau of Printing and Engraving (I think)

Ceiling in the East Wing of the National Gallery plus an untitled Calder mobile. I loved both galleries of the National Gallery. It is a perfect space for art. The place was made for art and it really looks like the art is happy there.

The Apotheosis at the Capital. The dude in the middle in George Washington.

DAR Museum/Library
Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress.

Sideways view of the Capitol ceiling. I like the way the arch swoops.

Looking up can be very inspiring, so LOOK UP!

  1. More great pics, I like seeing what you notice when you travel. I especially love the DAR window. Did you know I actually could be a DAR member? Haven’t investigated the possiblities/requirements though.

  2. Julie: I think the DAR picture is actually a skylight, but I don’t remember now. I am trying train myself to see the details. It is working somewhat…mostly when I don’t have a dozen other things to think about. I like to notice artchitectural details, because I greatly admire the workmanship and lament the demise of such workmanship, but also because I think some architectural details make fabulous quilting designs.
