Stepping Stones

I have really not turned on my sewing machine in two weeks. A little here and there, but nothing major since Thanksgiving. I am scraping the bottom of the barrel for blog posts as a result. I am planning to ignore the world (possibly in my pajamas) all day today and work on this project.

As I mentioned before, I got this pattern from a Pam and Nicki Lintott book. One thing that is very confusing is that they have written the pattern for one line of fabric. I am not using that line, so I had to translate and that proved difficult for me. I don’t like the directions very much. I don’t think they are bad, but they don’t really work for the way I work.

So, earlier this week, I sat down with EQ7 and made a rendition of the quilt. This helped me wrap my head around the project a little more. This exercise coupled with the math that TFQ did for me when she was here  made me less frustrated and excited about this project again. I organized a bit last night while the boys were out, so I am ready to sew like crazy.

  1. I love the pattern and colors you used! I will be interested in seeing this converted to fabric. Oh, and as I started reading your posting, I could not figure out why you would turn on your machine? What did your machine do to you that would make you mad at it! THEN I realized you meant you had not turned your machine on, power/electricity wise. I had, had this image of you with a gun pointed at your machine. hehehehe

Yes, I need more coffee this morning…or more eggnog at night? 😀

  2. Love the quilt top… I have bought several JELLY ROLL type books and am finding I do not care for the colorway/ washed effects of their quilts…. I guess I am too old fashion and want to see the blocks and work behind them. I usually cut my own jelly rolls cause then the colors are more to my liking and I always have a big stash of neutrals/whites to put into the quilts.

The instructions in the books often lead me to think….. THEY ARE DOING THIS THE HARD WAY. I do like some of the patterns and I have seen the quilts done from the books and I like many I have seen, usually better than the quilts in the book.

I too have been using EQ to play with and I am learning to design blocks. On my blog I have been replicating books from MODERN BLOCKS…99 BLOCKS FROM YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNER. MY drafting skills have greatly improved since I started playing with those blocks, plus I have the added advantage of seeing what a quilt looks like in my colors / and all blocks the same or as a sampler.
