This is another one of the quilts that was inspired by my classes with Pamela Allen. I started this quilt in 2006 (it took me a little while to actually finish it) at Quilting Adventures with Ms. Allen. When I am in a class with Pamela, I think outside of my own quiltmaking box. I also know that if I just listen and do what she says I succeed. Her classes make me feel a bit freer in my work. One of the aspects I really enjoy are the hand embroidery and beading on these pieces. I love this style and want to do more pieces using Ms. Allen’s techniques.

The quilts I make in this style involve layering – layering of fabric pieces, layering of raw edge applique on top of machine quilting and layering of beading and embroidery on top of the raw edge applique. Though the pieces are small, these layers create depth.

At some point this piece had a different name, Flower Garden, so I have put that in the title as well.

I did most of the work on The Garden in 2012. I nearly finished this before the 2013 New Year turned, but I didn’t have enough time. As a result, this was my second finish of 2013. I am very pleased.
