The Sampler quilt was not the first quilt I finished, but it was the first quilt I started, in 1987. I started it in an Adult Education class on learning to quilt at the San Lorenzo Adult School. A friend from work convinced me to take the class. She bailed after one semester and I took the class ($18/semester!) three times!

Each week, we were assigned a block to make. I made a lot of extras and even make the quilt bigger with spacer blocks. Making this quilt really made me love quiltmaking.

The quilt was hand quilted, mostly at Craft Night, and finished in 2000 after several years in the early 1990s where I didn’t do much quiltmaking. It was shown at the Marin Needlearts Guild show in 2000 and at the San Mateo County Fair.
