Inspiration Monday

Cabbage
Cabbage

I took the young Man and his friends to laser tag for an outing after Thanksgiving. While they were shooting each other with little beams of light, Mom and I wandered around trying to get away from the noise of the place. There was a Starbuck’s nearby, so we headed there on one of our forays. On the way there we saw a bed planted with these cabbages. I thought they were very pretty. I have never seen anything like this except at Disneyland and thought it was very enterprising of the owner or the gardening company or whomever thought to do it. Wouldn’t it be nice if they grew the cabbages and then gave them to a food pantry?

  1. You know, I always thought those plants were only ornamentals, not real eating cabbages! But then I also, only just yesterday, learned how to open a banana the right way and a few days before, how to boil an egg the right way. 🙂

    1. It is a great day when you learn something new. They may be only ornamentals; I know nothing about gardening, though ic an identify things when they are dead.

  2. As a gardener with both red and green cabbage slowly growing in my garden right now, I can attest to the fact that the cabbages you saw were indeed ornamental. The real ones grow about 1 – 1 1/2 feet tall, look a bit unsightly and if you do not cover them with tulle (my organic secret weapon) get dive bombed by every bug in the world to lay their eggs.
So, (smiling) it would indeed to great if they could plant edibles, but…they would have not attracted your eye enough to take a photo and post it on your blog. 🙂

    1. Susan,
Glad to know that my total lack of gardening knowledge or experience came out loud and clear! LOL! I want someone who will come and love my garden and make it pretty for me. I am sure I could figure out some good trade. I love a beautiful garden, but can’t/won’t do it alone. I love my sewing machine tooooooo much. Good to know about tulle. I’ll have to keep that in mind for the day when I grow something. Thanks for clarifying, Susan!
