Judy Martin Books Nov.2011
Judy Martin Books Nov.2011

A few weeks ago, Judy Martin had one of her famous book sales. These sales involve sending her $25 and getting back 3 random books. It is a risk, but this time I received two books I didn’t have: Patchwork Among Friends (her new one) and Stellar Stars.

If you would like to win the Ultimate Rotary Cutting Reference, leave a meaningful comment (anyone who writes something similar to “Shiny! Please enter me! I would love to win” will not be entered). I know it takes time to write comments. I enjoy reading them so write me a comment that takes a few minutes.

Anyone reading this on Creating the Hive or FB or any other source where this blog is syndicated should come to this post and comment. Deadline is December 15, or there abouts.

Hope you win!

  1. I wasn’t familiar with this book, so I went over to Amazon to read more about it. One of the commenters said, “This book will answer ALL your rotary cutting questions, and even ones you haven’t thought of yet. ” Another one said, “If you are mathematically challanged, this book will get you out of trouble and save fabric too.” It sounds good to me!!

Do you remember when I was first starting my Farmer’s Wife blocks, describing how I was printing out the templates, carefully cutting out each one? You looked at me and said something to the effect of, “Don’t do that. Rotary cut them. I will help you.” And you did. When you know better you do better. ; )

I’m very interested in taking a look at Judy Martin’s techniques. Thanks for the chance!

    1. I remember, Adrianne, and I am glad you started rotary cutting them. I am very pleased to help you learn. I think there is a teacher lying dormant inside of me. I know I have to get back to drawing those blocks in EQ! I will, I promise. Just wish I had some extra spare time. Thanks for commenting!

  2. I have many of Judy’s books including Stellar Stars…. but I have never seen a rotary cutting book. AFTER TODAY I KNOW I COULD USE THE BOOK. I cut out four blocks for a project and because I did not cut correctly I have to re cut the patches and re sew the blocks before our sew in on Monday. THAT IS WHAT I get for trying to do MATH in my head. If it was for myself I would just continue making the rest of the blocks the same size, BUT OF COURSE THESE BLOCKS ARE FOR AN EXCHANGE. So I will spend the day making more blocks… the four I ruined and SIX more.

So include me in the giveaway…. I could probably learn something from MsJudy.

  3. Would you believe I don’t own any Judy Martin books!? I think this would be a good one to start with. Looks like it would have some good tips to use in teaching, too. Thanks for being a gambler, Jaye. :):)

  4. You mean you are NOT a teacher of quilty things? I think you are….and I don’t think I am alone in that!
I was feeling like a splurge and took advantage of of Judy’s sale too. I got Steller Quilts, the Rotary Cutting Reference book and Cookies ‘n’ Quilts. Trouble is, I have hardly cracked the covers of any of them! I am too multi-faceted these days. lol Perhaps after the holidays. No need to enter me in the contest. I was just letting you know I still read your blog. OOOOOOOOOO SHINY!!! gotta run!!!

  5. I would love to be more accurate with my rotary cutter(s) — like Adrienne, I went to Amazon to check it out, and added it to my wishlist, so thanks for the info! — I don’t really consider myself to be mathematically challenged, but I do ask my mathematician husband for reviews and confirmation that I’ve done it right! lol

Now I’m off to check out more of her books. Thanks for the heads up!

  6. Okay, I just wanna say real quick that I have read your blog for a while but am fairly sure that I have never commented. However despite my silence, I really do enjoy reading it and doing the creative promts. I also have been enjoying the design stuff you have been doing with Sandy! So thank you!
I have been quilting for a litte over a year now and have slowly been improving my accuracy in cutting. I looked at this book as one for my wish list but decided against it. I was greatly surprised to see the same book as one you were giving away! Isn’t it funny how things work? Anyways, thanks for giving me a chance to win get the book anywya!

    1. Dear Sassy,
Thank you so much for reading and for commenting. I appreciate knowing that you are doing the creative prompts and reading. I am glad to know you are getting something out of the design series, too! Your comments make the work worthwhile. Making blocks is a really good way to improve your skills. Hope to see your name pop up in my comments again!
