Quilt Inspiration (30 Something)

This is like a bonus week. I keep thinking that it should be June already, but Memorial Day weekend was so early and the week preceding Memorial Day was so crazy that normal life barely registered. So BONUS!

I saw this quilt on a magazine I bought (**Disclaimer: yes, I bought this willingly and with my own money, it is not a review copy). It is called 30 Something (Thirty Something???) I LOVE this quilt on the front and have to put it in my queue to make. I like the different shapes and the way the pieces are set and then make the blocks.

I wouldn’t make in those soft 1930s fabrics, but I would make it scrappy. I am still thrilled with the bright scraps and dots I used for Scrapitude. I think I would use my bright scraps again.

It is so odd when a quilt grabs my attention like this one did. I can look at 100 quilts, yawn and move on, but then one grabs me and I can’t get it out of my head. It isn’t even the fabrics that I like. How can I look at this quilt and imagine it in brights and dots? I look at other quilt projects on magazines and can’t imagine them made any other way–with any other fabric. This quilt is different.

The brain is very odd.

What do you think?

  1. I know what you mean. I have had so many issues with making quilts and having the right color choices to make the patterns pop like they should. I have been very much in the wrong with this and have made many muddled quilts.

That you can see this pattern using your fabric choices is awesome. I am getting better, but still have issues with contrast now and then.

Anyway, I can see the lure of that pattern! SO many possibilities with that one!

  2. I agree, the brain is odd. And I get quilts in my head too and then just have to make them to get them out.
I hope you are almost done living in crazy land!

    1. Almost, I think, but last week seemed crazy, too. I am already plotting ways to collect the squares and such I need for this project.

  3. You could photocopy it then color over it or create it in EQ7 to play with the colors more. I subscribe to this magazine. And quilts in the head are like a cat who wants his breakfast! ????

    1. I may create it in EQ7. It is always good to have that reference. Too bad the magazine doesn’t have a downloadable file.

Yes, cat who wants his breakfast or a kid who wants to go to GameStop: ‘are we there yet? are we there yet?’ Rinse. Repeat. 😉

  4. I love this, too! Small pieces have always fascinated me and I love the variety in this quilt. I can see your dots in this as well. In fact, it screams dots to me as I can see them in the intersections. I can’t wait to see your quilt in this pattern!

    1. I am cutting small squares like a crazy person, but it takes a lot of them. I may have to start piecing (leaders and enders) just to get some traction and excitement going.
