Design Wall Monday – mid-July

It has been almost a month since I did a Design Wall post. The wall seems like a storage facility for pieces and parts lately. I am putting patches, bits of fabric, parts of blocks and hunting / gathering pieces up to get them out of the way more than work on them. Space feels at a premium in my workroom right at the moment.

  1. Flying Geese. I am making some sets of them again. I don’t think I need anymore for the design I am contemplating, but I have a stack of squares already cut and so I might as well make them.

2. I am still collecting red donation blocks. The two set apart are the latest.

3. FOTY 2016 latest squares. You can see some of the Food Quilt #3 fabrics showing up.

4. Donation squares. I seem to have mislaid the box, so I have been putting them on the design wall until it turns up, which it will undoubtedly do. This is always why there are no new donation blocks. No fabric = no blocks.

5. Partial seam block for my Aqua-Red Sampler. Tutorial coming soon.

6. Turquoise donation block. I am thinking of making a bunch of these next for another donation top.

7. Stepping Stones block. This is my sample. Yesterday I made some progress in my head about making the parts for the rest of the blocks I intend to make.

8. Lobster Placemat. I still need to do some stitching.

9. Pieces and parts for a Stepping Stones block.

10. Start of another donation block. I really need to find that bin!

11. Four patch for a blue donation block.

What’s on your design wall?

  1. All of my Freddy Moran houses. I need to rearrange my sewing room so I can get farther away from what I put up. I just hung some batting from my book case, but I couldn’t make it wide enough. Managed to knock off one of the wooden presser blocks (for clothing) on to my toe.

  2. I am very behind on the blog reading again, but I’ve got to say, I’m having a love affair with red and aqua and white this year. I don’t know if I’ll ever tire of it. I love your red & turquoise, but I would add a little more white myself. I love turquoise, too. We had a turquoise dining room when I was a child and now my living room is turquoise. It has been for years and I still love it. But then, the dining room has been a color called “golden opportunity” for years, and I never tire of that either. Now if I could just get DH to paint the den a nice rich deep green like juniper. I’m allergic to juniper apparently, but I love the color. Years ago I lived in Colorado one summer through the fall, and I bought there a beautiful long green winter coat with a faux fur vest topper. It was so gorgeous and kind of expensive for me, but I had that thing for so many years it was well worth it. It was called “forest green” at the time, but it is kind of close to what was being called “juniper” just a few years ago. That coat was a maxi length (long time ago!!!), but as it got snow soaked over the years, I had it shortened a couple times to remove the moisture damage. After it didn’t fit me anymore, I tried to sell it in garage sales for years & finally it went to some sweet little Chinese gal who was delighted that she got such a garment with this super fine construction & quality for only $2 or $3. I secretly still wanted to keep it even though I hadn’t worn it for probably 20 years since it didn’t fit me anymore. It was that great of a coat & I still loved the color. Some colors just stick with you for some reason, like certain music or perfume. They instantly bring back memories. I’m sure I loved that particular green because my Dad loved green like that. It took me awhile to realize why I liked it so much. So I imagine somewhere deep in your mind is the secret to why you love the turquoise and red. 🙂

    1. Thank you for sharing such a lovely story with me!! I know what it is like to have precious garments that feel so good. Too bad you couldn’t have had it copied and remade in your side. Perhaps you have a picture and someone can make it for me.

I wish I could see the color green you mean.I am not a beige person and have a colorful house as well. I still have two beige rooms, which will have to change soon. I think I will paint my bedroom turquoise, or, perhaps, aqua.
